This is quite clever! The bags dont have to be very strong its more of a comfort for people than anything else. Such a good idea I would like to know how to do it!
We really dont need bags for everything we buy. I was faced with this reality while traveling in Germany where they do not offer any bags at the check out counter!
I agree. We american's are so bag happy! I had the same experience in Europe–the grocers look at you like you are crazy if you did not bring your reusable bag. I am scarred for life. Now, I always bring my bags!
pre-cycle is the art of reuse before that fatal stage of recycle. recycling, although better than the landfill, still consumes vast amounts of energy.
i am interested in how we can reinvent and reuse our trash and consumables into reusable goods ?
when i was small i imagined our trash was taken away and kept like a library. now that i know about landfills, i wonder how can we sustain our consumption and create usable artifacts from our existing trail of goods?
facts:
The average American produces 4.6 pounds of garbage a day.
Packaging = 2x's the amount of durable goods waste.
Packaging is the single largest category of paper use at 41% of all paper used.
Over one million plastic bags are consumed per minute on earth–each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. 1% is recycled. plastic never biodegrades.
